Antibacterial: I'd rather give my hands a good rinse with piping hot water and a good scrub than put it all over my skin. I know it's a bit bizarre, but this advertising of the trendy Triclosan (the chemical used in antibacterial products) has got to stop!
I watched a program on antibacterial products on CBC (Canadian Broadcast Company) this afternoon which further reiterated my non-use of antibacterial products. Triclosan is a marketing hit, but that's about it.
Please consider the following: Triclosan does NOT do any better than normal soap and water in ridding yourself, your bathroom, your teeth, your vacuum, your dog, or your laundry of germs. Triclosan has not been tested long term to find out if there are any adverse effects, particularly on humans. Triclosan may actually allow bacteria to develop new strains that are resistant to the chemical. Test are still in progress to see what the environmental impact of this chemical is.
Despite sounding like an advertisement myself, I recommend the much less abrasive and much more natural Method brand of soap. Yes, it costs a bit more, but it's biodegradable and it smells so nice; especially the Sweet Water flavor. (Hey Maryann, did you know they make laundry detergent in this scent now?)!

Amen!! I've been preaching this same sermon since I took Microbiology in college. I make my own hand soaps and we use Ecover and Bi-O-Kleen soaps for house hold use. People who think antibacterial soaps are protecting them are sadly mistaken. They are actually hurting themselves and everyone else.
